HUMS design needs to take a holistic view of all the relevant factors

Do you want to identify the optimum HUMS design for your application and quantify the benefits that implementation would bring?

The overall benefit that is derived from a HUMS or Condition Monitoring system, is a complex function of a wide range of factors, including:

  • The machine’s failure modes and rates of fault occurrence
  • The monitoring and diagnostic/prognostic technology used
  • How the machine is operated and maintained
  • The logistics support/spares availability

The HUMS design needs to take a holistic view of all the relevant factors, and the maximum benefit may only be achieved if other changes are made (e.g. to the spares held, or the way in which the machine is maintained) when the HUMS is implemented.

In order to help our customers identify their optimum approach to implementing HUMS (or enhancing their existing HUMS experience), Avenca have developed a HUMS Combined Operational Effectiveness and Investment Appraisal (COEIA) model. Using our HUMS expertise, this approach means that we can create a system specification, predict the realisable benefits that will emerge, estimate what it will cost and identify any other changes which are required in order to get the maximum benefit from HUMS. We are impartial and independent, with the necessary expertise to undertake this complete assessment and ensure a successful outcome. If you’d like more details, then please get in touch.
